The Administrative Council of the John Paul II Foundation led by Archbishop Jędraszewski was held in Rome
Already, this year it will be 36 years since the moment when John Paul II established in Vatican the Foundation which bears His name. The Pope, having the future in mind, wanted this Church’s organization to promote various educational, scientific, cultural, religious and charity activities related to His pontificate. The Foundation from the very beginning started to document the great legacy and heritage of John Paul II for which the Centre for Documentation and Study was established. Documents related to the pontificate and the library with more than 30 thousand books along with the Museum where gift received by the Pope are stored, constitutes the heart of the Polish House.
It was the will of John Paul II, for the Foundation to contribute in the development of the intellectual elites of Eastern Europe, granting fellowships for students from former communist countries to study at the Catholic University of Lublin and the John Paul II Pontifical University in Krakow.
According to the Foundation’s statutes, Archbishop of Krakow is the supreme authority of the Foundation and Cardinal Stanisław Ryłko is the Chairman of the Administrative Council. Thus, this year, for the annual meeting of the Administrative Council which took place on March 2-3, 2017 in Rome at the Polish Home at via Cassia, came the new Archbishop of Krakow, Marek Jędraszewski. The meeting was attended also by other members of the Administrative Council: Archbishop Józef Kowalczyk, Senior Primate of Poland, Rev. Stanisław Budyń from the Polish Catholic Mission in Germany, Ewa Bednarkiewicz, Wojciech Halarewicz, Ryszard Krzyżanowski, Henryk Rogowski, Stefan Władysiuk, Secretary of the Foundation, Msgr. Paweł Ptasznik from the Vatican Secretariat of State and the Administrator of the JPII Foundation Fr. dr. Krzysztof Wieliczko OSPPE, Rev. dr. Andrzej Dobrzyński, Director of the Documentation and Research of the Pontificate of John Paul II, Msgr. Mieczysław Niepsuj, Director of the Polish Home in Rome and Rev. Jan Strzałka, Director of the JPII Foundation Home in Lublin.
On the first day of the meeting, the last year activities of the Foundation were summarized and the year 2016 was rich in events which took place in Rome as well as throughout the world where the Chapters of the Foundation exist. It was also a year of the 35th anniversary celebrations of the John Paul II Foundation – the main celebrations took place in Rome, on October 22-24 with the main point of the meeting with Pope Francis. The second day of the meeting started with the solemn Mass at the St. John Paul II altar in the Vatican Basilica. The Mass was celebrated by Archbishop Marek Jędraszewski and concelebrated by Cardinal Stanisław Ryłko, Archbishop Józef Kowalczyk and several priest related to the Foundation. Then, during the meeting the future of the Foundation and specific initiatives for the current year were discussed at the Polish Home.
