John Paul II FoundationThe John Paul II Foundation was established by a Papal Decree on October 16, 1981 as a religious, educational, charitable and non-profit organization. Its official seat is located at the Vatican. The Foundation owns a building in Rome at 1200 via Cassia where the secretarial offices are located. The main goals of the Foundation include:
Some specific activities include: - The Center for Documentation and Research of the Pontificate of John Paul II serves to preserve the documents relating to John Paul II’s pontificate and to pass on this patrimony for future generations. The collected materials serve for leading scholarly researches, publishing studies and press articles, organizing symposia and exhibits. The Center's library has 30,000 volumes which are available to scholars researching the teachings of John Paul II. - The Museum collection includes gifts offered to John Paul II by pilgrims. There are currently 10,000 items of memorabilia catalogued. - Scholarships for students from Eastern Europe. The John Paul II Foundation prepares future intellectual leaders for the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. It does this through scholarship assistance given to students attending the Catholic University of Lublin in Poland. The Foundation covers all the costs of education, and provides scholarships to 138 students from 8 countries. The students reside in the John Paul II Foundation Home. Over 700 students have completed their courses of study, received their academic degrees, and returned home to work. Of these, three are full professors and 67 have their doctorates. - Short-term scholarships for individuals who come to Rome to do research on the teachings of John Paul II. - The Summer University of Polish Culture serves individuals who are interested in Polish culture and live outside of Poland. It is intended primarily for young people who for the most part do not speak Polish but wish to learn about Polish culture, its Christian roots, and its relation to the whole world. Lectures are conducted in Polish and English. - John Paul II Foundation - Casa per Ferie in Rome serves all pilgrims. The Home is host to scholarly meetings, the Summer University, and religious and cultural gatherings that relate to pilgrimages to the Eternal City. The Home is a place where the pilgrim experiences the religious and cultural dimensions of his pilgrimage. - „Bullarium Poloniae” edits and publishes the documents that relate to the relations of Poland with the Apostolic See beginning with 966; - „Ethos” - published in cooperation with the Institute of John Paul II at the Catholic University of Lublin. The purpose of „Ethos” is to present information and learned articles on the teachings of John Paul II and in this way serve people and culture.
The continuing financial help and support of the John Paul II Foundation from around the world makes all of this work possible. The John Paul II Foundation seeks to cooperate with organizations and institutions that are dedicated to the promotion and promulgation of the teachings of Pope John Paul II in their Christian outreach and in cooperation with the Apostolic See. StructureThe supreme authority of the Foundation is governed by Cracow's Metropolitan Archbishop Most Rev. Card. Stanisław Dziwisz. The Chairman of the Administrative Council is Most Rev. Card. Stanisław Ryłko. The Administrative Secretariat of the Foundation is led by Rev. Dr. Krzysztof Wieliczko. The Secretariat provides support with respect to the activities of The Center for Documentation and Research of the Pontificate of John Paul II, as well as other institutions of the Foundation, such as: John Paul II Foundation - Casa per Ferie (Director: Msgr. Mieczyslaw Niepsuj) and John Paul II Foundation Home in Lublin (Director: Rev. Ryszard Krupa, SCJ). The Center for Documentation and Research of the Pontificate of John Paul II is subdivided into the Documentation Division and the Research Division led by Rev. Dr. Andrzej Dobrzyński. The Administrative Secretariat makes the Foundation present wherever possible and promotes the purposes of the Foundation. It also edits the quarterly Bulletin, which informs its readers about the work and activities of the Foundation. The generous contributions of many benefactors from Poland and from all over the world make the work of the Foundation possible. Many of the benefactors are members in the Chapters and Societies of "Friends of the Foundation". There are 44 groups of Friends of the Foundation in 16 countries on four continents. SupportThe Foundation is able to realize its goals and purposes thanks to the financial and moral support it receives from its Friends, who see in the Foundation's work a contribution to the great pontificate of John Paul II. The Holy Father emphasized the contributions and generosity of the Friends in his address to them at a private audience on October 26, 1995, when he said: „The good work of the Foundation was made possible only through the good will of many people who individually and in an organized way through the Friends' Chapters of the Foundation in many countries helped this important endeavor. ... I thank you for what you are doing to help this valuable institution grow and I encourage you to continue your generosity in the future.”

From Grande Raccordo Anulare: follow exit 5 towards Cassia-Viterbo. The Polish Pilgrim Home in RomeThe Polish Pilgrim Home is located in the southwestern section of Rome - Giustiniana - (Exit Nr. 3 on the Grande Raccordo Anulare) 15 kilometers from the center of the city. In a beautiful park-like setting, it serves all pilgrims, especially Poles coming from Poland. The Home provides room and board, as well as information about the Eternal City and its historic sites. Guided tours are available. The religious atmosphere of the Home helps pilgrims experience their visit to Rome in a most beneficial way. The Home houses the John Paul II Research and Documentation Center and the executive offices of the Foundation. The Home is host to scholarly meetings, the Summer University of Polish Culture, and religious and cultural gatherings that relate to pilgrimages to the Eternal City. The Home is not a hotel nor only a residence while visiting Rome, but a place where the pilgrim experiences the religious and cultural dimensions of his pilgrimage. While blessing the Home on September 8, 1981, the Holy Father expressed it best: „This Home should be a meeting point of cultures and traditions and history, all within the framework of the great culture, tradition, and history that is Christian, and, therefore, it is the history of the Church and the history of all mankind."
