Picnic of the John Paul II Foundation New York Chapter in American Czestochowa
On the last Sunday of July, at the invitation of the Pauline Fathers, we went to the American Czestochowa on the traditional summer picnic. In the morning, we were participating in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in the Chapel of Our Lady of Czestochowa.
Pauline Fathers welcomed us very warmly; during the Mass, Father Jan Michalak highlighted the Foundation’s role in dissemination of the Blessed John Paul II’s teachings and promotion of Christian ethics in the modern world.
"Love is a gift" - St. Maximilian Kolbe and Blessed. John Paul II
"Is it possible for there to be a world without saints? Of course yes, but who would like to live in such a place?! We would certainly be looking for a different, more friendly place. Saints encourage us "to become established" in our surrounding reality in which, despite its many problems, it is possible to find kindness and love. Man can carry out heroic actions, overcome his own weaknesses and ascend the heights of excellence. An example of this is St. Maximilian Kolbe who made history as “someone who believed that love could be a creator and that is able to soar high above hate, and even achieve victory", so wrote Father Zdzislaw J. Kijas, in the foreword to the publication of "Love is a gift."
On Sunday, June 24th a solemn Mass was celebrated at the end of the academic year in the House of the John Paul II Foundation, simultaneously with the farewell to Fr. Włodzimierz Płatek, Deputy Director of the Foundation House. End of session – the end of studies. For someone, it was the first year, the first experience that they will remember for a lifetime. For others, it was another year of study. Some of us will graduate, and in their place a new generation of eager to learn will come.
A unique exhibition of images sent to Pope John Paul II
”So that good will be stronger than evil on Polish soil and result in victory. That is what I pray for.” said John Paul II in Krakow during his second pilgrimage to Poland in 1983. These words became an inspiration for the Center for Documentation and Research of the Papacy in Rome to create an exhibition commemorating the 20th anniversary of the August demonstrations.
The photos presented in the exhibition document the pacifist demonstrations "Fighting Solidarity" which took place in Wroclaw and Lublin in 1982. They come from the Center’s own collection and were given as a gift to the Pope during a visit to his oppressed homeland in 1983.
At the invitation of our chapter in Indonesia, the administrator of the John Paul II Foundation, Fr. Krzysztof Wieliczko, was accompanied by counselor Richard Krzyzanowski, for a short visit to Indonesia July1-9, 2012. On arrival they were warmly welcomed by the President of our Indonesia Chapter of Friends, Mrs. Lucia Liando, and an assembled group of Indonesia brothers and sisters in faith. They were pleased to meet again in their country, which is undergoing significant development with a booming economy.
The Indonesian Chapter is involved of number of important projects to disseminate the thoughts and teachings of our great founder, Blessed John Paul II, as well as initiatives to increase the significance of the local Catholic Church. Most importantly they are reaching the young and recruiting them for the work of the Foundation. Father Krzysztof celebrated daily, sometimes twice daily masses at gatherings of Friends in their homes, places of work and churches. Warm and inspiring homilies, together with singing of Indonesian religious hymns accompanied of Masses and celebrations.
